Three years: a durable, self-sustaining capability

By the three-year horizon, AI-supported quality work should be a normal part of how the organisation runs its process — governed, monitored, staffed and funded like any other capability, not a standing project.

The signal of durability is boring, not exciting: routine intake of new use cases, predictable qualification timelines, competency records that turn over as staff change, and a monitoring function that catches drift before a customer does.

An organisation that still describes its AI-in-quality work as "the pilot" after three years has not built a capability; it has extended a pilot indefinitely.

PUT THIS INTO PRACTICE

  1. 01Check whether intake, qualification and monitoring now run as routine process, not project work.
  2. 02Confirm competency and ownership survive staff turnover.
  3. 03Retire the word "pilot" once the capability is actually running in production.
